Hi there! Ben here!
I don’t think there’s ever been a day where I didn’t want to build something, invent something, or chop something in half.
If I didn’t have hands I’d work with my feet.
My childhood pastimes included tinkering in the basement, exploring the wilderness, and playing with swords. My adult pastimes include tinkering in the basement (the bus), exploring the wilderness, and playing with swords.
Building the bus was a HUGE learning experience for me and I’m really proud of what we transformed that ol’ prison bus into. It’s still a work in progress and I’m loving it. This spring I’m finishing up our plumbing (finally!) and our reclaimed southern yellow pine tub/shower! Wait until you see it!
I studied conservation biology in college and managed a reclaimed lumber company until December 2017 when we took the leap into full-time bus life and pursuit of creating something of our own.
I believe in putting our bodies to good use and not just making them look good. I’ve always had a passion for martial arts and that’s my motivation for being healthy.
I want to encourage people to have at least one physical pastime that they love and will motivate them to be healthy and fit. You have to enjoy it to stick with it.
Let’s face it, not all of us are great with our money and I was no exception. Back in 2010 I had over $55,000 in student loan debt to pay off alone, not to mention living expenses. I made the minimum payments necessary to get by but it seemed like my overall balances never went down!
Going about my day with a general feeling of financial anxiety and dreading the next payment was not my idea of living my dreams. It wasn’t until I met up with my high-school sweetheart and now wife, Meagan, that I learned the skills to dig myself out of the money pit I was in.
Money isn’t everything BUT exercising financial health & being aware of your habits leads to other positive changes in other areas of your health. Within a year my debt balances started to drop and my savings started to increase. With that comes CHOICES and more freedom to do what we’re passionate about.
Even with Meag & I’s combined debt we were able to take charge of our situation and begin the steps to financial freedom. I want anyone who feels trapped by their financial situation to know it doesn’t have to be like that forever. Our journey led us to treat our bodies better, our minds better and more in the pursuit of our dreams. Design a life you love living, right?!
Welcome to The Wild Drive Life, everyone!
